Unrequited Love Song: I can’t make you love me

by Tim from Unrequited Love Help on July 10, 2011

This is another unrequited love song that’s really beautiful. It’s sung by Allison Iraheta and has the title I can’t make you love me.

One of the favorite lines in this song for me is “Cause I can’t make you love me if you don’t, you can’t make your heart feel something it won’t”.

This is what makes unrequited love so sad – being powerless to change something about a thing that you are so intensely passionate about.

“I’ll close my eyes, then I won’t see, the love you don’t feel when you’re holding me”

Again – sometimes accepting the truth that a person doesn’t love you can be too painful, and just closing your eyes to that truth, pretending not to see and know it can be like a soothing embrace that can relief you of the pain – at least for a couple of moments.

Here are the lyrics:

Turn down the lights
Turn down the bed
Turn down these voices inside my head
Lay down with me, tell me no lies
Just hold me close, don’t patronize
Don’t patronize me.
Cause I can’t make you love me if you don’t
You can’t make your heart feel something it won’t
Here in the dark, in these final hours
I will lay down my heart and I’ll feel the power
But you won’t, no you won’t
Cause I can’t make you love me if you don’t.
I’ll close my eyes, then I won’t see
The love you don’t feel when you’re holding me
Mornin will come and I’ll do what’s right
Just give me till then to give up this fight
And I will give up this fight.
Cause I can’t make you love me if you don’t
You can’t make your heart feel something it won’t
Here in the dark, in these final hours
I will lay down my heart and I’ll feel the power
But you won’t, no you won’t
Cause I can’t make you love me if you don’t.
